Fanning In The Real World: Stealth Fandoms

Me every. Single. Pancake-flipping. Day.
(Source)
Hello Fanlings! How are you? I can't hear you, and I don't care. JK.

After Fandom Beauty Day, I was talking to my mum about all the Fandoms I'm in, and how there are some I don't really talk about. Well dear reader, I don't talk about them because of you. Not you specifically, but my readers in general. This is a SuperWhoLock centered blog, and I want to make you happy. So here is a list of most all of the shows, movies, and books I fan over. Listed in no particular order.

T.V.:

The Strain
It's so weird. I love it.

Murder in the First
Do I like this show? If by "like" you mean "love it so much it hurts my feelings," then yes, I like this show.

The Big Bang Theory
SHIP ALL THE SHAMY!!!

How I Met Your Mother
*tears*

Last Tango in Halafax
Old people in love. Do I need more reasons? Nope.

Star Trek: TNG
Make it so.

Blues Clues
Don't judge me.

Vicious
Sirs Ian and Derek make me want to be an old gay man. *Squee*

Miranda
One day I will meat Miranda Hart and I will be starstruck and short.

Grimm
Monroe. That is all.

The Following
The people in my kitting group think I'm a serial killer because of this show. Make one comment about killing that blonde girl being beneath Joe...

Perception
Daniel needs a hug. #HugsForDaniel2014

Mad Men
Betty Draper is a horrible person.

MythBusters
I reject your reality and substitute my own!!

(Source)
Movies:

Lord of the Rings
One fandom to rule them all...

The Hobbit
I'm fairly sure I'm just a really tall hobbit.

Harry Potter
One of my first fandoms.

Doctor Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog
This is my favorite movie. *happy dance*

SharkBoy and LavaGirl
I liked Taylor Laughtner before he was cool.

The Hunger Games
They haven't messed these up. Yay.

Sharknado
Sue me.

Titanic
Jack + Rose. I WILL GO DOWN WITH THIS SHIP. Oh, wait...

Book Series:

Graceling
NEED. MORE. BOOKS.

Gregor The Overlander

The books that made me love reading.

Alcatraz Vs.
I wish I were a Smedrey.

The Hunger Games
They didn't mess up the movies. Yay!

Percy Jackson
They messed up the movies. Boo.

Fablehaven
I still haven't gotten over that series ending. I miss you.

Need

THAT is how you end a series!

The Mortal Instruments
*waits for next book*

You see my problem. If I did one post for each Fandom I'm in, I'd never have time to post about important things, like Benedict Cumberbatch's butt, and other important world issues. If you want a post about one of the listed, let me know. ALSO, I ask you guys to comment. And you never do! Grr. I know people are looking at my blog, but you ignore me. Why? I'm tempted to misspell something so I get a comment.

Favorite Fan Videos: Supernatural

Five or so days ago, I was thinking about this post. You know, my fav fan vids for SPN, and the like. Then it dawned on me: I only had one Supernatural fan video I liked. So the search began.

Dun, Dun DUUUNN!

Funny enough, the first video I liked didn't make the cut. And since this valiant search started a mere four days ago, I probably missed a famously good one. Oy. If I did, feel free to share below.

Ladies, Gentlemen, Fanlings, cats, and robotic kiwis, I present my top five Supernatural fan-videos!

Have some Winchester-Brother-Problems-Hug-It-Out-Already feels

Favorite Fan Videos: Doctor Who

Last week I said, and I quote,
"As you know, on Sunday nights I post new installments of the various blog series I write. Well, right now I don't have any good ideas. Like none. So, I'm taking a little breather from the series-ing. But don't fret: I'll start back after I have a good idea. If you have something you wanna see, let me know."
Well, after one week, a tiny existential crisis, and a buttmonkey-load of coffee, I've come up with an idea. "Favorite Fan Videos: A Convenient List Of My Top 5!" I still need ideas on what you wanna see, or if you even like the blog series-ing. Anyway, to the videos!

For the "Unicorn and the Wasp" fans
5.

Have some feels, why don'tcha.

I love this one. Always have, always will.

SOOOoooOOOoo, now you've seen my top five DW videos. Oh, and the "50 Post Dance Party/Binge Watching Extravaganza" is this Wednesday. I really do need to know about the blog series-ing thing. So comment or use the contently located poll! Enlighten me. I wanna be one with everything. Or two with everything. That seems better. I feel enlightened-er, do you feel enlightened-er? I feel enlightened-er.

My Feels Through GIFS: Sherlocking In The Wild

So I was at a bracelet making workshop at my local library. I was talking to one of my friends and he asked, "Where did my girlfriend go?" I pointed to her across the room. He said thanks. And then he paused, and made this face:

(Source)

"How did you know who my girlfriend is? I hadn't said who she was or what she looked like."

"Well," I said, "you were standing together when I came in, she seemed slightly threatened when I sat next to you, and you just said that she has really small wrists. She was just complaining about how hard it was making tiny bracelets." And then I was like:

And then he was like:

And I was all like:

And he was like:

And then we where both like:

And then I was all like:

And then I changed the subject. Perils of being a Sherlockian I guess.

Here, Have Some Kool-Aid: Sherlock

(Source)
Welcome to the final "Here, Have Some Kool-Aid" post. Today we talk about converting your friends to the BBC Fandom life.

Sherlock can be one of the hardest shows to get your friends to watch. Because of its long episodes, short seasons, and the stigma that surrounds it, Sherlock can be intimidating for a new fanperson to take on. I've heard of people thinking that Moffat was a villain in the show. He might as well be, but still.

BBC Sherlock staring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman is an entirely new beast. The RDJ movies, Elementary, and even House MD, are very different. There are similarities among these obviously, but it's the same story told a thousand different ways. And because of the vast and never-ending supply of variations, some people think, "You've seen one, you've seen 'em all."

The adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson are well know and beloved. And just like each Whovian has their Doctor, each Sherlock fan has their own Holmes & Watson combo. Mine is the BBC version, obviously. So when your showing your potential fanperson the show, think about that. Are you saying "Look at this new thing that you haven't seen before!" or "Let me show you a new version of something that you already love!"?

(Source)
As you may remember from my last two posts, (*cough cough Doctor Who and Supernatural cough cough*), I have repeatedly threatened to come through the computer and smack you with a rolled up newspaper and say, "Bad Fanling! No post for you!" if you skip seasons.

As Sherlock lacks the number of seasons and episodes that DW and SPN have, I shouldn't have to threaten. Just know the offer still stands if you skip.

As you know, on Sunday nights I post new installments of the various blog series I write. Well, right now I don't have any good ideas. Like none. So, I'm taking a little breather from the series-ing. But don't fret: I'll start back after I have a good idea. If you have something you wanna see, let me know.

I might need to make some room in my head for new ideas. Maybe I'll get rid of the solar system. That seems like a good idea. I mean, what does that matter? So we go around the sun! If we went around the moon or round and round the garden like a teddy bear, it wouldn't make any difference! I hope someone got that reference and you all don't think I'm crazy. Oy.

Happy Fandom Beauty Day!!

(Pic by my Mum, arm by me, (Well,
technically mum did that too.) Fandom symbols by Mum.)
Note to TFiOS fans: I am a TFiOS fan. I forgot my to draw my "Okay? Okay." bubbles. I'm sorry. Forgive me. Okay? Okay.

You may be saying to your self, "Self? Why has this blogger, writer and dare I say friend, darkened the endless web of the internet with a picture of an arm? And a hairy, pale arm at that?" Or you may just be saying, "Hey! Look an arm!"

Either way, IT'S FANDOM BEAUTY DAY!!!

And by "Fandom Beauty Day," I do not mean the twisted concept that we have as a society of what be pretty.

I mean the glory! the honor! the all over awesomeness that lives in The Fandoms as a whole and in Fandom individuals.

So I bestow unto you a picture of my arm. Also, I be pale and I be hairy. I blameth me Dad, both for the hair and for the way I was just talking just then.

SooOOOoOoo, just in case you don't know what some of the symbols are...

**********

#DFTBA = Don't Forget To Be Awesome, Nerdfighters/Vlog Brothers John and Hank Green
Red circle with wibbly squiggles around it = Anti-angel symbol, Supernatural
Blue box with flashy red nob on top = Tardis, Doctor Who
Brown triangle with circle and line = The Deathly Hallows, Harry Potter
Orange curly diamond with horns = Rune, The Mortal Instruments
221B = Address, BBC Sherlock
Yellow ring with writing = The One Ring, Hobbit/LotR
Giant red *A* = Avengers logo, Avengers
Orange *B* = Buffy B, Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Green shark tooth with a star = Federation symbol, Star Trek/ST:TNG
Red and white circle = Pokéball, Pokémon
Scary blue fork of doom = Trident, Percy Jackson

*********

So anyway Fanlings, I think we need a symbol. What do you think it should be? A panda? A top hat? A panda IN a top hat? I'll have it figured out by next year.

If you too have an idea for the LastFangirl symbol, and/or and symbol-y arm pic, feel free to post it below.

In conclusion, live it up Fanlings. Today is our day.

*****UPDATE*****

My anti-angel symbol met an unfortunate end involving my upper arm. I wrote "So Get This..." in its wake. RIP anti-angel symbol. You will be missed.

Jarsen, The Fandom Panda, Rants

Jarsen flips over when he's angry.
(Pic from here, edit by me, Jarsen by Jarsen)
This morning I woke up to panda yodeling. And as you know, Fandom Pandas only yodel when they're very upset.

I galloped to Jarsen's room to see what was the matter. And there poor Jarsen was, just yodeling his little heart out. It was pitiful really.

I said to Jarsen, "Jarsen? What's the matter, sweetness? Did Moffat get you again?"

Jarsen said, "No. I'm just very mad. I was just thinking about animals in the Fandoms. Or rather lack thereof. I mean really. There's the cat-people from Doctor Who, but there cat-people. They hardly count as straight up animals. There's a dog in Supernatural every now and again, but they're plot tools, not characters. There was that hairless cat in Sherlock, and just no. Redbeard is lovely, but he was just a memory. And the only panda I know of is the panda picture in Mike's apartment on Suits. It just makes me mad. I could just yodel."

I said, "Well, I have my post about you today. I could make it a call to action. If you like."

And Jarsen said, "I would love that."

Then I said, "Ok. What do you want for breakfast?"

And he said, "Waffles please. And can we have bamboo bacon?"

And I sai--Nevermind, BACK TO TOPIC.

So, anyway, this is the call to action.  If you know the writers of a TV show urge them to write in more animals. If you write fan-fic, I urge you to add someone fuzzy. If you are fan-art-ly gifted, I urge you to include non-homosapiens in your images. Hear my plea, Fanlings. Please, for Jarsen's sake. And if not for him, for me. I can't bear the yodeling.

Here, Have Some Kool-Aid: Supernatural

If you didn't cover half the picture to see the different faces
at least once, we can't be friends.
(Source)
A number of people have asked me to do a post on introducing your friends to Supernatural.

That number is zero.

But here it is anyway, in case that number is really one.

Supernatural is a great show. But some people are still apprehensive about watching it, because they don't understand it.

What's key here is explaining that this isn't "Billy-Joe-Bob's Guide to Satan Worship." The show is a Good Vs. Evil fight. There are truly evil things in this show. But the boys are always raging angst them.

And it's not all black and white. It's not just slaying monsters and rescuing (cough*banging*cough) damsels in distress. There's quite a bit of gray area. And that's where people get lost. They see the pentagrams, demons, and blood covered Winchesters, and they assume that it's evil.

The cure for this is *gasp* telling them it's not. And even if they don't believe you at first, they will. It's a process.

The best place to start is *double gasp* Season 1 Episode 1. Some people skip the first 3 seasons. If you do I will come through the computer and smack you with a rolled up newspaper, and say "Bad Fanling! No post for you!"

You can pretend all you want, but sooner or later you're going to have to face up to who you really are.

One of us.

Hot Guy Appreciation: Buffy The Vampire Slayer

So, one of my friends asked me to do a post about Buffy. Later in that same conversation, we talked about the HAWT guys of Buffy. So it seemed natural to make my post about them. Here you go, M; happy looking.

Ranking cute to HAWT, by my standards.
