Hello FanStuffs, Goodbye Money: This Is My Cup Of Tea

I'm too tired not to find this hilarious.
(Source)
** I HAVE NOT BEEN PAID TO SAY THINGS**

Prepare yourself for me sounding like a low budget commercial.

As you know, I'll be doing a giveaway here in a bit for the one year anniversary of the blog, and I had decided a while back to do tea or coffee for my next giveaway.

I remembered that Adagio Teas makes fandom teas, so I went over to give them a look.

It's amazing.

They not only have fandom teas, but they have collections. And ships. You can ship the teas with other teas. And you get 10% off if you buy two teas that are in a ship together. And they have framed sets, so you can put them in your house. I cannot contain all of my happy. You got a fandom? They've probably got a tea. Buffy, Supernatural, Sherlock, Doctor Who... the list goes on. And on. You may be asking yourself, "Self? What if they don't have a tea for my fandom? Or they do and I don't like it?" You can make them. You can make your own teas. It's a dream come true.

I think this is a wonderful thing. Not just because you can sit down after a long day and have a big cup of Castiel, although that is a plus. But because that means that the fandoms are spreading out into the world. Into other things and places. Beyond the reach of the internet and into a corporeal space.

Love me a corporeal space.

The link to the main site is here, the link to the fandom page is here, and I'll be all the way over here with the order form. 'Cause I needz it.

Last Tango In Hali--GREG

(Source)
I watch a British television show called" Last Tango In Halifax." It's about old people in love, life, and an untangle-able web of lies. Really untangle-able. Don't even try.

It's lovely.

The new season has started up a few weeks ago. And I was just watching along, when who shows up but DI GREG LESTRADE.

That's really all I've been thinking about. Greg. GregGregGregGreg. As you know, I love Greg. Not just the character, but the actor too. Rupert Graves is very talented. I'm going to try to find "'Tis a Pity She's a Whore", because my godmother saw that in theater and was very impressed with him.

But, he'll always be Greg to me.

Top Ten: Sherlock Christmas Fanart

Ahhh, Christmas. The magical season of miracles and trees. And of course the cats trying--but failing--to knock over our tree. A true miracle. As I sit down to write this post, eggnog in hand, christmas spiri--NOPE. The eggnog has gone off. This does not bode well for the season.

Of all the wonderful perks of the season, the Christmas specials are among my favorite. (As is this. Harold for life.) In celebration of the BBC Sherlock Christmas Special, a post of Christmas Sherlock fanart. W00t.

Hello FanStuffs, Goodbye Money: All I Want For Christmas Is FANDOM

(Source)

***I HAVE NOT BEEN PAID TO SAY THESE THINGS***

A lot of holidays are coming. Soon. TO A THEATER NEAR YOU. Whether it be for Christmas, Hanukkah,Yule, Hogmany, or Boxing Day, buying things for the ones you love (or hate the least) is an important part of the end months. Why? Monkey Rabbits if I know.

And yet, it is a thing.

One problem of the holiday season is finding things for those you love, that they will love, that don't happen to be socks. 'Cause everybody loves socks. In this post, I have compiled a list of things you may want to buy for your Fandom people, or vice versa. Onward!

How To Be Stupid: BBC Sherlock Edition

In this post I'm gonna get ranty and mad and probably say things like the ever popular "couldn't run a whelk stand." Be forewarned.

(Source)
This thing. Right here. Look at it. Like really. This post won't make any sense if you don't read it.  *Clicky Clicky*

Now. On the surface, this may seem like this best idea ever.

Sliced bread can suck it.

I have come to the realization, however, that this is a horrible idea and I apologize to sliced bread for anything that I or my fanling peers may have said to hurt its feelings.

Moffat and Gatiss are not the people who control when Sherlock airs. There's hair and make-up,  actors, directors, producers, sets, lighting and sound, wardrobe, cameramen, and a whole bunch of other BBC Sherlock assorted production monkeys who have to get their collective craps together before we can have new Sherlock.

And I think the idea is stupid really. What good will it do? Are we just to sit twiddling our thumbs while the rest of the world flips over the Watson-Mini? It deprives us of one of the greatest things the fandom world has ever known: new content freakout.

And I'm not saying that Moffat and Gatiss aren't the cause of much torment in my life. My hobbies include writing, fangirling, cats in cups, and doing this for hours on end:
(Source)

But that's the writing. Ya know, what writers actually do.

It's not just Mark and Steven sitting in a basement plotting ways to make you feel bad for a year and a half. That's only on Wednesdays.

And I'm not even saying this is all the Fandom all the time. We all have our moments. I once thought I should dress up as the superhero The Non-Crazy Cat Lady and go about picking up cats and putting them all in a cat habitat in our back yard. See? We all have stupid ideas. It's when they go widespread that it becomes an issue. I have 3 yards of superhero cat fabric and a cat-mask to prove it.

This whole idea is flawed to its core.

Best case: We annoy the people that give us a wonderful show.
Worse case: They pull the show because they think we don't love it anymore.
Worst case: Dead. Worst case always dead.

"Thank you for writing a devastatingly wonderful show. We were gonna make you a card, but instead WE MADE YOU A HIATUS I HOPE YOU HATE IT."

I love the Fandoms but--gah. Sometimes I don't think they could run a whelk stand in Whelkville at the height of whelking season. I mean, really? I know most of the Fandoms proudly have the collective maturity of six-year-olds on a sugar high, but really?

I'll be in the bunker with Dan and the crumpets if you need me.

Formidulosus Sundays: Sherlock's Worst Enemy

(Source)
'Ello. I'm in a good mood. I went to say "Sherlock" today and it came out in a perfect Dublin accent. And I didn't even mean to! The past seven months of practicing has paid off. Yay!

Onward to the post!

Sherlock has his faults. His addictions. His ambitions. His loves. Sherlock has a very strong personality and he's not one to half-ass two things. He whole-asses one thing and won't stop until he's content.

But it's that same drive that creates the biggest dangers for him. So many of the times he has been hurt, and/or endangered, it was because of one of his passions. His.

It seems to me that everyone is always blaming Moriarty. Or Moffat. Like all the time. No one ever takes a look at Sherlock's role in his life. Moriarty may be the good old-fashioned villain in our fairy tale, but Sherlock has his own internal villains to deal with.

Sally Dono-blech once said, "One day, we'll be standing around a body, and Sherlock Holmes will be the one who put it there."

And it was. It was Sherlock who put himself on the sidewalk. Was he under duress? Yes. Did he do it for the sake of Jawn and the Baker Street Boys? Yes. But in the end, it was Sherlock. It was his love for them--that inevitable disadvantage--that ended him.

Sherlock is Sherlock's end.
Sherlock is Sherlock's nightmare.
Sherlock is Sherlock's worst enemy.

Can of Worms, Now with Convenient Pop-Top: Elementary vs. BBC Sherlock

(Source)
Something has been bugging me lately.

I keep seeing BBC Sherlock fans dissing Elementary.

Now everyone has the right to their opinion; it's when you're nasty about it that makes me mad.

One of the nice things about the fandoms is that you can love what you love without being judged.

The Sherlocks from BBC and Elementary live in two very different worlds. And so do the Fans. So can we please stop building a rainbow bridge over to the Elementary fandom for the sole purpose of slapping those fans in the face?

BBC Sherlock is a powerful fandom. And with great power, comes great arsewad-ness if you're not careful. Why are we treating fans in another fandom badly because we just happen to share the main character both shows are based off of? If anything, we should be closer to them.

I think we need to make like kindergarten kids and share (naps and cookies optional, but encouraged). The world can have two Sherlocks.

You can love the BBC and the CBS Sherlock. They aren't mutually exclusive unless we make them so. I think the more smart-sexy men we have on TV, the better. I would rather live in a world where the shows of choice involve housekeepers, tea, and tall buildings rather than baby-daddies, STDs, and the coast of New Jersey.

That's how I feel. Sue me.

In other Fanling news, the Jarsen posts have been rescheduled for the end of every quarter. And starting this Sunday, we start FORMIDULOSUS Sundays, which is Latin for scary. We'll talk about the scariest baddies of SuperWhoLock. Is it not FORMIDULOSUS?

Doctor John H. Watson Appreciation Post

(Source)
I love the Doctor side of John. We, as a fandom, don't get to see that often. And I miss it.

Sometimes I go into deep thought about different lines from Sherlock and try to decipher hidden meaning and such. One of the lines I've thunk about is:
"I was in the army. I killed people."
"You were a doctor!"
"I had bad days!"
So, to my thunking, here how it goes.

John was a doctor in the army. John was a doctor in a war zone. He lost people. And he doesn't see it as "they were killed in the war." He sees it as, "I, John Watson, couldn't save them. I killed them." And I think that is beautiful. He goes above and beyond, not only in matters of life, but death too. He is a doctor to his very core.

I love Doctor Watson. I love the jam-kittens-rage Jawn too--don't get me wrong. I just like the serious, feelings-y side too.

In other news, the giveaway is still going in full force. And only a few people have entered so far, so you have a pretty good chance of winning.

And now, in the words of a obsession of mine: I can solve your murder. But, John Watson can save your life.

Shipping Wars: Stop It, Fandom

Based on a real conversation.
(Pic from here, edit by me)
Shipping fights irk me. They do.

As you know, I'm a Johnlocker. It's the ship I command, but that doesn't mean that it's the only ship in my fleet. I understand the whole "Sherlolly vs. Johnlock" thing. I get it. But the whole thing makes me mad. I mean really. That's not what the fandoms are about.

I believe in a land of equal opportunity shipping. A land where we can live in peace with our ships and maybe even squee over the ship that opposed us in this land.

I'm taking a moment for the sole purpose of asking the fandoms to stop the fighting. Fandoms fight, just like any family, but when we let the fights overcome the rest of the fandoming, we are no better than the people who hate fandom people just for being in the fandoms. Really though. It's crap like this that gives the fandoms a bad rep. And btw, this goes for all ships, not just Sherlolly and Johnlock.

So, in conclusion, stop the fighting. Stop the magic conch threats. Just stop. If not for the good of the fandom, for me. I can't stand the irking.

I don't know if it was the search terms I was using whilst looking up Sherlock FanVids or what, but I found some weird stuff. Like really cray-cray. Like this and this. My Feels Through GIFS: Sherlocking In The Wild

So I was at a bracelet making workshop at my local library. I was talking to one of my friends and he asked, "Where did my girlfriend go?" I pointed to her across the room. He said thanks. And then he paused, and made this face:

(Source)

"How did you know who my girlfriend is? I hadn't said who she was or what she looked like."

"Well," I said, "you were standing together when I came in, she seemed slightly threatened when I sat next to you, and you just said that she has really small wrists. She was just complaining about how hard it was making tiny bracelets." And then I was like:

And then he was like:

And I was all like:

And he was like:

And then we where both like:

And then I changed the subject. Perils of being a Sherlockian I guess.

Here, Have Some Kool-Aid: Sherlock

(Source)
Welcome to the final "Here, Have Some Kool-Aid" post. Today we talk about converting your friends to the BBC Fandom life.

Sherlock can be one of the hardest shows to get your friends to watch. Because of its long episodes, short seasons, and the stigma that surrounds it, Sherlock can be intimidating for a new fanperson to take on. I've heard of people thinking that Moffat was a villain in the show. He might as well be, but still.

BBC Sherlock staring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman is an entirely new beast. The RDJ movies, Elementary, and even House MD, are very different. There are similarities among these obviously, but it's the same story told a thousand different ways. And because of the vast and never-ending supply of variations, some people think, "You've seen one, you've seen 'em all."

The adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson are well know and beloved. And just like each Whovian has their Doctor, each Sherlock fan has their own Holmes & Watson combo. Mine is the BBC version, obviously. So when your showing your potential fanperson the show, think about that. Are you saying "Look at this new thing that you haven't seen before!" or "Let me show you a new version of something that you already love!"?

(Source)
As you may remember from my last two posts, (*cough cough Doctor Who and Supernatural cough cough*), I have repeatedly threatened to come through the computer and smack you with a rolled up newspaper and say, "Bad Fanling! No post for you!" if you skip seasons.

As Sherlock lacks the number of seasons and episodes that DW and SPN have, I shouldn't have to threaten. Just know the offer still stands if you skip.

As you know, on Sunday nights I post new installments of the various blog series I write. Well, right now I don't have any good ideas. Like none. So, I'm taking a little breather from the series-ing. But don't fret: I'll start back after I have a good idea. If you have something you wanna see, let me know.

I might need to make some room in my head for new ideas. Maybe I'll get rid of the solar system. That seems like a good idea. I mean, what does that matter? So we go around the sun! If we went around the moon or round and round the garden like a teddy bear, it wouldn't make any difference! I hope someone got that reference and you all don't think I'm crazy. Oy.

Happy Fandom Beauty Day!!

(Pic by my Mum, arm by me, (Well,
technically mum did that too.) Fandom symbols by Mum.)
Note to TFiOS fans: I am a TFiOS fan. I forgot my to draw my "Okay? Okay." bubbles. I'm sorry. Forgive me. Okay? Okay.

You may be saying to your self, "Self? Why has this blogger, writer and dare I say friend, darkened the endless web of the internet with a picture of an arm? And a hairy, pale arm at that?" Or you may just be saying, "Hey! Look an arm!"

Either way, IT'S FANDOM BEAUTY DAY!!!

And by "Fandom Beauty Day," I do not mean the twisted concept that we have as a society of what be pretty.

I mean the glory! the honor! the all over awesomeness that lives in The Fandoms as a whole and in Fandom individuals.

So I bestow unto you a picture of my arm. Also, I be pale and I be hairy. I blameth me Dad, both for the hair and for the way I was just talking just then.

SooOOOoOoo, just in case you don't know what some of the symbols are...

**********

#DFTBA = Don't Forget To Be Awesome, Nerdfighters/Vlog Brothers John and Hank Green
Red circle with wibbly squiggles around it = Anti-angel symbol, Supernatural
Blue box with flashy red nob on top = Tardis, Doctor Who
Brown triangle with circle and line = The Deathly Hallows, Harry Potter
Orange curly diamond with horns = Rune, The Mortal Instruments
221B = Address, BBC Sherlock
Yellow ring with writing = The One Ring, Hobbit/LotR
Giant red *A* = Avengers logo, Avengers
Orange *B* = Buffy B, Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Green shark tooth with a star = Federation symbol, Star Trek/ST:TNG
Red and white circle = Pokéball, Pokémon
Scary blue fork of doom = Trident, Percy Jackson

*********

So anyway Fanlings, I think we need a symbol. What do you think it should be? A panda? A top hat? A panda IN a top hat? I'll have it figured out by next year.

If you too have an idea for the LastFangirl symbol, and/or and symbol-y arm pic, feel free to post it below.

In conclusion, live it up Fanlings. Today is our day.

*****UPDATE*****

My anti-angel symbol met an unfortunate end involving my upper arm. I wrote "So Get This..." in its wake. RIP anti-angel symbol. You will be missed.

Jarsen, The Fandom Panda, Rants

Jarsen flips over when he's angry.
(Pic from here, edit by me, Jarsen by Jarsen)
This morning I woke up to panda yodeling. And as you know, Fandom Pandas only yodel when they're very upset.

I galloped to Jarsen's room to see what was the matter. And there poor Jarsen was, just yodeling his little heart out. It was pitiful really.

I said to Jarsen, "Jarsen? What's the matter, sweetness? Did Moffat get you again?"

Jarsen said, "No. I'm just very mad. I was just thinking about animals in the Fandoms. Or rather lack thereof. I mean really. There's the cat-people from Doctor Who, but there cat-people. They hardly count as straight up animals. There's a dog in Supernatural every now and again, but they're plot tools, not characters. There was that hairless cat in Sherlock, and just no. Redbeard is lovely, but he was just a memory. And the only panda I know of is the panda picture in Mike's apartment on Suits. It just makes me mad. I could just yodel."

I said, "Well, I have my post about you today. I could make it a call to action. If you like."

And Jarsen said, "I would love that."

Then I said, "Ok. What do you want for breakfast?"

And he said, "Waffles please. And can we have bamboo bacon?"

And I sai--Nevermind, BACK TO TOPIC.

So, anyway, this is the call to action.  If you know the writers of a TV show urge them to write in more animals. If you write fan-fic, I urge you to add someone fuzzy. If you are fan-art-ly gifted, I urge you to include non-homosapiens in your images. Hear my plea, Fanlings. Please, for Jarsen's sake. And if not for him, for me. I can't bear the yodeling.

A Day In The Life Of Jarsen, The Fandom Panda

(Pic from here, edit by me, Jarsen by Jarsen)
We had no new Jarsen post last week.

My mind was so full of TFIOS feels, I forgot.

Forgive me!!!!!

Okie dokie.

Now that that's out of the way.

So Mum was asking me recently, "What does Jarsen do all day? He seems to just drink coffee and watch TV." And I was thinking, that seems about right. So I asked Jarsen, "Jarsen, what do you do all day?" He then issued this very detailed report:

And Lo! A Fangirl Was Born: Sherlock

I love Shocking Blankets.
(Source)
Now, the completely unextraordinary story of my infatuation with Sherlock...

T.V. in summer is about as dead as Sherlock (too soon?), and Mum and I had just reached the end of it all. It was the summer of 2012, and Amazon had seasons 1 and 2 of Sherlock for free streaming on Prime. So, we decided to see what the all fuss was about.

Wow, that's lame.

I mean it really is. Even the word lame is kinda lame. For something so important I kinda blindly stumbled upon it.

BUT...

I did not blindly stumble into The Fandoms. I mean, I did. You can't prepare for that crap.

I had followed some Doctor Who Pinterest boards, and after Mum and I watched The Reichenbach Fall, I said to my self, "Self? I wonder if BBC Sherlock has a lot of fans. And I wonder if they're on Pinterest..."

Well.

This was my first real Fandom experience. I had had a few close encounters of the Fandom kind, (Doctor Who, Buffy, HIMYM, ST: TNG, Star Wars, etc.) but I never got it. Not really. As you can imagine it was a little overwhelming, diving headfirst into one of the craziest, die-hard-iest Fandoms.

And it was awesome.

I never really fit in. Still don't. But The Fandoms are like a huge extended family that gets you. You don't have to explain your craziness, because they're right along with you. And like in any family, you argue. But you get over it.

How I love the Sherlock Fandom, let me count the ways...

1. It's crazy.
2. We've rioted in the past, and threaten to do so again from time to time.
3. CumberBum, CumberButtons, and CumberCurls are legit things.
4. We have a collective want to slap Moffat and Gatiss with a fish.
5. The ships. 'Nuff said.
6. The quotes. 'Nuff said, part 2.
7. Otters, umbrellas and hegehogs have a whole new meaning.
8. Do I need more reasons?

So yeah. That's less lame right? I hope so.

What do I ship, you ask? Well... all of them. As you may remember from BBC Sherlock: The Musical, Part 2, The Ships, if it's shipable, I ship it. Except Mylock/Shercroft. Just no.

In case you where wondering, here be my Pinterest. Also our next Jarsen post is coming Wednesday, so yay.

Laterz Fanlings.

Hot Guy Appreciation Post: Bloodied Beauties

Short post today. Short words. BIG headache. I still have a bit of a Mycroft-style cake hangover from Jarsen fest 2014.

I agree for several reasons.
