Shipping Wars: Stop It, Fandom

Based on a real conversation.
(Pic from here, edit by me)
Shipping fights irk me. They do.

As you know, I'm a Johnlocker. It's the ship I command, but that doesn't mean that it's the only ship in my fleet. I understand the whole "Sherlolly vs. Johnlock" thing. I get it. But the whole thing makes me mad. I mean really. That's not what the fandoms are about.

I believe in a land of equal opportunity shipping. A land where we can live in peace with our ships and maybe even squee over the ship that opposed us in this land.

I'm taking a moment for the sole purpose of asking the fandoms to stop the fighting. Fandoms fight, just like any family, but when we let the fights overcome the rest of the fandoming, we are no better than the people who hate fandom people just for being in the fandoms. Really though. It's crap like this that gives the fandoms a bad rep. And btw, this goes for all ships, not just Sherlolly and Johnlock.

So, in conclusion, stop the fighting. Stop the magic conch threats. Just stop. If not for the good of the fandom, for me. I can't stand the irking.

Ships: Why It Gotta Be Gay?

SHIPITSHIPITSHIPITSHIPIT
(Source)
So, I was talking with my mum about ships, and I was listing most of the ships I ship and she asked, "It seems like the majority of ships are gay. Why do you think that is?"
Well. I have several theories.
***********************

1.
The Fandoms don't care about little things like gender, sexuality, good/evil, different beliefs, and other things that classically keep couples apart.

Most ordinary people might say, "But, they're not gay," and then the fandoms be like:

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. WHEN HAS THAT STOPPED US BEFORE, MORTAL? GAY LOVE CAN PIERCE THROUGH THE VEIL OF DEATH AND SAVE THE DAY. FEAR OUR SHIPS!"

Any then they run away. Far, far, away.

2.
The Fandoms can look past it all. We can look past the whole #NotGay thing and see into the souls of the couple, and if they fit together from there, and not just on the surface level. I think that's also why there is such a potential for crossover ships: we see who's good together, and not just who could be together.

3.
There are a lot more men then women as main characters. So, we just have more M/M material to work with. *Superwholock example time*
Sherlock: 5 boys, 3 girls not counting Mary.
Supernatural: 6 boys not counting Kevin, 4 girls, and no girls that aren't dead right now.
Doctor Who: Crapton of both.

The only female+ show I could think of off the top of my head was BtVS, with 7 girls and 4 boys. But, Joss Whedon is just awesome.

***********************
So, yeah. Ship it,  little fanlings. Ship it ALL!

Jarsen, The Fandom Panda, Rants

Jarsen flips over when he's angry.
(Pic from here, edit by me, Jarsen by Jarsen)
This morning I woke up to panda yodeling. And as you know, Fandom Pandas only yodel when they're very upset.

I galloped to Jarsen's room to see what was the matter. And there poor Jarsen was, just yodeling his little heart out. It was pitiful really.

I said to Jarsen, "Jarsen? What's the matter, sweetness? Did Moffat get you again?"

Jarsen said, "No. I'm just very mad. I was just thinking about animals in the Fandoms. Or rather lack thereof. I mean really. There's the cat-people from Doctor Who, but there cat-people. They hardly count as straight up animals. There's a dog in Supernatural every now and again, but they're plot tools, not characters. There was that hairless cat in Sherlock, and just no. Redbeard is lovely, but he was just a memory. And the only panda I know of is the panda picture in Mike's apartment on Suits. It just makes me mad. I could just yodel."

I said, "Well, I have my post about you today. I could make it a call to action. If you like."

And Jarsen said, "I would love that."

Then I said, "Ok. What do you want for breakfast?"

And he said, "Waffles please. And can we have bamboo bacon?"

And I sai--Nevermind, BACK TO TOPIC.

So, anyway, this is the call to action.  If you know the writers of a TV show urge them to write in more animals. If you write fan-fic, I urge you to add someone fuzzy. If you are fan-art-ly gifted, I urge you to include non-homosapiens in your images. Hear my plea, Fanlings. Please, for Jarsen's sake. And if not for him, for me. I can't bear the yodeling.

Jarsen, The Fandom Panda: An Introduction

(Pic from here, Edit by me, Jarsen by Jarsen)
Someone (you know who you are *cough*Joy Holman *cough) asked for a post 'bout Pandas.

SooOOOooOooo.....

Welcome to the first ever "Jarsen, The Fandom Panda" monthly post!

Meet Jarsen. He is a Panda. And as you may have also gathered, he is crap-a-flapping adorable.

Let's get to know Jarsen on a deep, non-adorable-faceness level.

Jarsen loves hats, Billy Joel, bamboo, and binge watching Supernatural, Doctor Who, and Sherlock.

His birthday is the 27th of May, 2013, which means he's nearly one.

His full name is Jarsen David Holmes. His names come from Supernatural, Doctor Who, and BBC Sherlock, in that order. Yes, SuperWhoLock. "Jarsen" is Jared Padalecki's and Jensen Ackles' names smoshed together. Jared and Jensen. Jarsen. "David" is for David Tennant, and you can probably figure out Holmes on your own.

On the first Wednesday of the month, I shall update my little fanlings on Jarsen, the fandom panda.

Thar be the Jarsen basics. He also has a fondness for pirates. Arghhhhhh.

Hello FanStuffs, Goodbye Money

(Source)
****I HAVE NOT BEEN PAID TO SAY THINGS****

Something I've learned in my adventure in fandoms is that Fans are crafty.

Not crafty like this------------------------------------------------->
Well, maybe. I don't know you that well. But with, like, yarn and candles and stuff.

Sometimes when you're workin' the loom and watchin' the TV, someone's face just ends up on a throw pillow.

Just me?

Okay then.

So one day, I'm just strolling along though the internet, and I come across this. Then I'm all, "Oh, cool. I'll just casually look at the website this comes from and not become totally obsessed and then save up all the money I can find until I BUY THEM ALL."

We all know where this is going.
So far I've looked under all the cushions of every couch I've ever been within 50 feet of, ALL MY PANTS, and everywhere besides my bank account. I'm now just 94 cents away from one whole dollar!

Anyway, I think these candles are really cool. The link to Fandlemonium.com is right here.

I really want Sam, Rose, two TARDIS, The Doctor, several Moriartys, seven Castiels, seven Deans, at least four Sherlocks and four Watsons (they should come in pairs), Dumbledore, Harry, Hermione, and Ron. And a Custom DI Greg Lestrade, and an Anderson candle for when I want to be the smartest one in the room.

Is that all of them? Huh, Don't know how that happened.

Go, go little fanlings! Spend all your money like there's no tomorrow!

And that giveaway I mentioned? Lurking around the corner like a stalker with a restraining order.

SuperWhoLock vs. The Hiatus

Source

There was no new Supernatural this week.

I repeat: No. New. Supernatural.

Supernatural is the glue that holds SuperWhoLock together, what with its regular seasons and lack of Moffat. Without Supernatural we're a episodeless mass of hopeless fanpeople. Or maybe that's just me.

What am I supposed to do with my life?

Which raises the question, what do you do with your life when there are no new episodes? Binge watch reruns? Read fanfic? Write fanfic?
Read amazing blogs about SuperWhoLock? All four simultaneously, you say?

Some weird people (aka my mom) just wait for the next episode. No. Nein. Nopeskerdoodles, Captain Normal. Ain't happenin'.

These, these people--directors, actors and Kripkes--with their personal lives--gah! No personal life for you!

I digress. The point of this post is, what do you do when your shows/life are lost in the marvelous wilderness? Every week is a mini-wilderness year. I am not Sam Winchester. I am not "fine."

Why Is It SuperWhoLock And Not AvengerGhostPotSlay?

No. I don't regret a thing.
(Made by me)

So today I was saying to myself, "Self? What about the Supernatural, Doctor Who and BBC Sherlock Fandoms make them mesh so well?"

To my way of thinking, it all starts with Doctor Who.

Doctor Who has become a cultural icon. You don't have to have ever seen a single episode to understand a bit of what Doctor Who is about. Plus, it's had 50 years to accumulate fans (for now leaving aside the whole "original series" vs "new series" discussion). To me, Doctor Who brings two essentials to the Fandom Party. (Party! Whoo!)

Wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff:

Reversing the polarity of the neutron flow, anyone? Bees are aliens? Why not! Doctor Who is filled with enough science and physics to allow any one to sufficiently get their geek on and engage their brain as well as their feels.

Hot guys having emotions as they save the world:

Doctor Who is so much more, obviously, but still.

So what about Sherlock? Let's check our two Fandom Party Essentials. Wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff? Check. There may not be time travel, but there's plenty here to engage the intellect. Hot guys having emotions as they save the world? Check. Sherlock may not display his emotions openly, but Watson is a hedgehog made of feels and jam, so it balances out. Cumberbatch's cheekbones alone qualify in both the "hot guy" and "emotions" category. ::fans self::

Supernatural is basically Sam, Cas and Dean, hot guys every one of them, saving the world. The world they inhabit is complex, built on and expanded from traditional boogey-men (Bloody Mary, werewolves, etc.) to a whole ongoing celestial and demonic story arc. (Anywhere there's a bit of a plot hole, just insert a shirtless Padalecki!) Two Fandom Party checks there as well.

That's why I think SuperWhoLock is a match made on Gallifrey. It all just smooshes.

AvengerGhostPotSlay? I have know idea why, but I want it to be a thing now.

So tell me gentle reader: why do you think these three Fandoms mesh together so well? And what other Fandoms do you Fan?

Everything You Need To Know About: The Fandoms

credit 3chicgeeks.com
Welcome to the second post in the "Everything You Need To Know About" Blog Series! I have been informed that tens of people read last weeks posts, and that fills me with such joy. This week we start the never-ending journey down the rabbit hole of insanity that is the Fandoms. One of the basic things you MUST learn is that Fandom is an ever-changing, moving and living being. One day something can be huge, and the next POOF gone. No one cares anymore.

What is a Fandom? Any thing can have a Fandom--books, movies, actors and actresses, TV shows--if some one can love can it, it can have a Fandom. (And no, that does not apply to your boyfriend Brad. Unless Brad's last name is Pitt, then yeah. And also ANGELINA JOLIE IS READING MY BLOG! EEP!) Fandoms often spring up among groups of friends who like the same thing, then grow from there. Some fans contribute to their Fandoms through Fan-Fic, Fan-Art and Meme making. All though not mandatory, the above are appreciated and applauded. And remember, there are no Fan-Fic, Fan-Art or Meme police. Just trolls.

Because a lot of fans are alone in their towns, school, family, etc., you may be wondering, "Where can I find fellow fans?"

A good place is to start is the Internet, a favorite for homebodies and those who fall down easily. So perfect for me. Tumbler, FaceBook and Pinterest are good places to look. And blogs, of course **wink wink**.  Below I've listed some places on the interweb (mostly Facebook pages and Pinterest Boards) I like to frequent (sorted by Fandom).

Supernatural:

Supernatural

Misha Collins

Jensen Ackles

Misha Collins Addicts

Supernatural Insider

Madly in love with Sam, Dean and everything Supernatural

Misha Collins stole my heart.

Supernatural my life my world

Oh, Misha.

Pudding - All Things Supernaturally Awesome

Jared Padafandom

Doctor Who:

Doctor Who

The Daily Dalek

Alex Kingston

Catherine Tate

Sherlock (Because not everyone has seen Sherlock s3 just know, SPOILERS):

Harry Potter:

General Fandom:

BuzzFeed

Anglophenia

That is a LOT of stuff. I didn't know I like to frequent that many places.

Next week on the "Everything You Need To Know About" blog series: fan terms!! Because when I say, " I can't even... My feels over my OTS... brb DYING," you'll need to know what I mean.

I am a SuperWhoLock fangirl.

Well, short answer: Insanity.
